Abstract

This project is focused on an innovation of a Smart Pillow Alarm System, a wake-up device with sound, vibration as well as heat to ensure a comfortable yet efficient wake up. Utilizing ESP32 microcontroller, the system is highly versatile and offers innovative hardware and software to accommodate various users with very different sleeping patterns and for the hearing-impaired. The Smart Pillow Alarm System comprises of little vibrating motors, heating pads and a sound module which are integrated into the shape of a pillow so as to ensure comfort. The operating procedure allows the users to vary the intensity and the composition of these features, and thus, accomplish a flexible yet gentle waking scenario that cannot be addressed with a standard alarm clock. The changes are based upon feedback gathered from users of the site and successive testing on a variety of sleeper profiles. Through the combination of multi-modal stimuli, the system prevents stress and at the same time improves non stimulant wakefulness, giving a better early morning experience. By connecting the microcontroller technology with ergonomic design, this work shows how this system can revolutionize alarm devices for waking requirements today and in the future.
