Role of Resource-based View in Predicting ERP Perceived Value: Higher Education Perceptions

Abstract

Higher education institutions (HEIs) nowadays focus on using strategic information systems as part of their digital strategy. An Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system can help HEIs manage their resources and operations effectively to meet this challenge. Based on reviews, this study conceptualizes the influential ERP factors into the resource-capability configuration. A preliminary study on ERP among 40 HEIs in Egypt was carried out for the Egyptian HEIs to explore their perception of the ERP system as a new integrating tool for their value and advantage. The results revealed that a high percentage of HEIs had not yet adopted these systems, despite their positive attitude towards the value of ERP systems. They are still at the developing level because these systems have not yet been adopted. This study also helps to advance ERP concepts and provides practical verification in the context of higher education. Finally, this research guide HEIs to understand the ERP system's necessity as a strategic system proposing them to adopt ERP systems for their competitiveness.

  • Mohamed Soliman, School of Management, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM)

    Mohamed Soliman worked as a research fellow and teaching assistant in the operations department at the School of Management, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Malaysia. He completed a Doctoral program (Ph.D.) from a unique and global university, USM; USM is no. 142 QS World University Ranking, 2021. His Master's degree and First degree (Honors) are in Management Information Systems. He has academic teaching and research experience coupled with professional expertise in both Arabic and English -speaking environment. He published many manuscripts in well-indexed and peer review journals and presented papers at international conferences. His research interests include innovation technology, technology management, technology adoption, digital transformation, learning management systems, supply chain, MIS, ERP, and higher education. He experienced two cultures of the Middle East and Southeast Asia in private, public, and international universities with many academic and administrative roles.

     

  • Noorliza Karia, School of Management, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM)

    Noorliza Karia is an Associate Professor of Logistics and Operations at the Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). She received her Ph.D. in Logistics from the University of Hull, UK, MBA from the USM, and Bachelor of Science in Production and Operations Management from the University of Denver, Colorado, USA. She is a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, UK. She has more than 80 publications published in high-quality journals and conferences. Her research interests center on logistics, operations and quality, resources and capabilities, halal and green logistics and service, competitive advantage, sustainability, and innovation.
